Quantifying reshoring at the macro‐level—Measurement and applications

In this paper, we develop a metric of reshoring at the macroeconomic level, level industries or countries. Our dynamic measure computes change in domestic–foreign input ratio and therewith captures idea moving production back to home country. Additional conditions ensure that is confined actual does not pick up, for example, mere changes scale composition production. We show only weakly approximated by reduced offshoring. compute intensity from World Input Output Database illustrate use data with several applications. Specifically, trends examples countries industry sectors, investigate China, examine impact an increasing degree automation emerging developing economies.
